TODAY VENEZUELA – Speaker of the National Assembly (AN) Henry Ramos Allup sent notices to a number of Colombian government authorities requesting their support to “inquire into the nationality or double nationality” of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros.

Addressees include Colombia’s Foreign Minister María Ángela Holguín, Congress Head Luis Fernando Velasco, and the National Civil Registry.

In the notices, dated May 25 and 26, AN reported on the appointment of a sub-committee on Civil Affairs headed by opposition legislator Dennis Fernández. The group comes from the very heart of the Standing Committee on Domestic Policy.

The documents indicate that AN responds to claims made by “interested citizens” and they seek to clarify Maduro’s situation “based on elements including his parents’ nationalities, and his birthplace.”
