On Tuesday, Guaido addressed the nation in a video shot at La Carlota airbase in Caracas showing him alongside soldiers and opposition politician Leopoldo Lopez, who had been under house arrest.

In the three-minute video, Guaido said he had begun the “final phase” of his plan to oust Maduro and said soldiers who took to the streets against Maduro’s government would be defending the country’s constitution.

For his part, Nicolas Maduro took to Twitter to say he had the “total loyalty” of the military.

“Nerves of steel! I call for maximum popular mobilization to assure the victory of peace. We will win!”, said Maduro.
