The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) of Venezuela on Friday condemned the actions of a group of officers allegedly involved in a plot to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López offered a press conference accompanied by the Military High Command and voiced “strong rejection” against alleged coup plans reported by President Nicolás Maduro on Thursday.

“These officials have sullied the military honor and violated their oath in order to undermine peace,” he said.

Padrino López added the military prosecutor has been notified of the plans and the relevant steps will be made pursuant to military regulations.

He further stated that the FANB reasserted its support and absolute loyalty to the Venezuelan president. “From the FANB, we do reject any meddling.”
