EL UNIVERSAL – Cases of malaria are likely to hit a record high in Venezuela. A total of 31,761 cases were reported on May 18-24, according to the latest Epidemiology Report issued by the Health Ministry.

The situation is alarming, considering that 1,583 new cases were recorded in a single week, 6.76% over the numbers shown in the last report.

Once again, most occurrences were recorded in the states of Bolívar (southeast) and Amazonas (south) with 94.5%.

The best preventative measure is not going to endemic areas. Other measures include the use of insect repellent and mosquito nets.
